  WTTO HISTORY

WTTO TV, Birmingham's fourth TV station, signed on April 21, 1982, as an Independent. Our popularity grew based on our strong line-up of classic dramas, sitcoms and films.

In 1990, WTTO TV became a Fox affiliate.

On January 27, 1997, WTTO switched to an affiliation with The WB Television Network.

In September of 2006 we became CW21, a network merging of the best of The WB and UPN, as well as presenting exciting new shows. CW21 is also Alabama's home for Classic Comedy, proudly airing family friendly programming including The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, Friends and The King of Queens.

WTTO TV has long been an integral part of Birmingham and the surrounding communities of central Alabama with our personal involvement in local charities and family events. Look for us at events as diverse as We Love Homewood Day, The Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook-Off and The City of Graysville Mayberry Day.

Our proud heritage of local sports programming, SEC Football (since 1997) and other popular sporting events grows every year.

CW21 serves up summer fun with our Free Friday Flicks, an 18 year tradition of free family oriented movies shown in Homewood Park.

We look forward to continuing to serve the needs of our neighbors, friends and families. As we say at CW21 - WTTO TV, the fun starts here!
