Backpack Program

In Alabama, 290,000 children don’t always know where they will find their next meal. That means one out of every four children in our state may have access to school meals during the week, but often have a harder time finding food on weekends and during school vacations. That’s where the Backpack Program comes in. Volunteers assemble and fill packs with child-friendly, nutritious, and easy to prepare food before distributing them to participating schools. These packs are discreetly given to eligible children every Friday and before holiday breaks. We need your help to reach every hungry child in Alabama - to find out how your organization can help alleviate child hunger on the weekends, contact a Food Bank on the list below.
